If you wanted to go to the movies in the 1940s, two of the most popular theaters in Joliet were the Rialto, still located on North Chicago street, and the Mode, which was located at 18 West Van Buren,

Below are images of ads from the Herald-News showing what was playing at these two theaters on this day in 1947.

The Encyclopedia Americana notes that a newsreel is " a type of news film once shown in movie theaters. Made up of news items (usually about six), the standard newsreel lasted about 10 or 15 minutes."
