The Most Reverend Martin D. McNamara was installed as the first bishop of the newly created Roman Catholic Diocese of Joliet.

Below are an image of the headline on the front page of the Joliet Herald-News, an image of Bishop McNamara preaching his first sermon taken from the book History of the Joliet Diocese, and a Herald-News image of St. Raymond cathedral. According to the book The History of St. Raymond 1917 - 1992, this building was used for worship from 1918 to 1954.
