Using the Public Computers
- Please bring your library card with you. You will need it to use our
reservation system. You must use your own card to make a reservation for a
computer. Library staff reserve the right to verify ownership.
- If you forget your card Library staff can make a reservation for you if your account is in good standing
and you have proper identification. We
honor most Illinois library cards under our reciprocal borrowing policy
provided you have the card and identification with you.
- If you have any questions about acquiring a Joliet Public Library card
please see "How to Get a
Library Card" or please call 815-740-2660 for more information.
- Joliet Public Library offers either
filtered or unfiltered Internet access. Parents or legal guardians who wish their child,
age 17 or younger, to have access to unfiltered Internet stations must
sign a parental consent form in the presence of a staff member. Parents/legal
guardians, not the library, are responsible for
monitoring their child's Internet use.
- If you have $3.00 or more in fines or
overdue books you may not use the computers until your account is cleared.
- So that we may best serve all patrons we must
limit the amount of time allowed for computer use. Check with the department
or branch you want to use for further information.
- Help is available for basic questions.
However, library staff members do not create, compose, or type documents,
resumes or projects
for patrons.
- You may make reservations from inside the Library to use a computer
up to 48 hours in advance. You have 10 minutes from the beginning of your
reservation time to log on or it is automatically forfeited. You will have
to make a new reservation and possibly encounter a wait time for the next
available PC.
- You may not install, load or use your own
software or hardware on any library computer.
- The Joliet Public Library is not responsible for damage to any portable
media or
data contained on the portable media used on the library’s computers.
- Patrons are responsible for any damages
incurred by the library due to faulty portable media or misuse of the the computers
or accessories.
- Anyone attempting to damage the library's
computers or networks will be prohibited from using any of Joliet Public
Library's public access computers.
- For
more information regarding the use of the public computers please
call the Internet Computer Center (815-846-3115) or the Online Learning
Resource Center
(815-740-2666).
